The GSM Association, the industry trade body representing the GSM ecosystem, told Green Telecom Live that it is setting up a new working group this week to further work in the development of embedded mobile solutions, including guidelines for adopting the technology for smart grids. Ton Brand, senior project director for the GSMA, says a new task force, tentatively called GSMA Embedded Mobile Task Force, will be set up this week to develop guidelines for future embedded mobile applications. ... Despite widespread news that other wireless technologies, such as WiMAX, Wi-Fi, ZigBee and others, are already keen movers into the smart meter segment, Brand admits that the GSMA is just entering the space, and any guidelines in the area won’t arrive before the November timeframe. Publication of those guidelines is likely to coincide with the GSMA’s Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong in November. Link
