Mesh AMI, Zigbee HANs Top Utility Choices For Smart Metering |

Mesh radio is emerging as the most used and sought after smart metering communications technology. Forty-two percent of utilities say they are using, planning or considering mesh metering systems, according to one of Chartwell's latest reports, Smart Metering Technology. Still, Chartwell's research shows that non-mesh radio communications are drawing wide interest from utilities looking to implement smart meters, such as tower-based networks. "Most of the larger contracts that have been announced within the last two years have involved mesh or tower-based networks, so it supports our findings," says Mark Hall, research analyst for Chartwell.
