[Akiba] Vertoda is WSN management software. There are few details, but an interesting angle is that they say they will be offering a free community version...gonna try and find me out some more info...[/Akiba]

The original definition of Green IT was the efficient use of computing resources. However, in recent times this definition has been extended to seek ways in which IT can contribute to environmental improvement and the debates about climate change and energy usage.

The Leading Edge Forum (http://www.csc.com) estimate that IT usage in terms of electricity, emissions and recycling consumes only 2% approximately of worldwide energy use. The production of IT components such as PCs and Printers contributes approximately 4% towards the resource usage total in terms of electricity, emissions, recycling, chemicals and water. ...

Environmental sensors monitoring metrics such as temperature and humidity can play a key role in Climate Change projects for providing real-time climate data. The Vertoda system can then take this data and transform it into meaningful information that can be transferred to a desktop Office application, Email, an ERP system, a Business Intelligence system or a mobile phone. The environmental measurement and detection possibilities are many. Water Flow, Soil Degradation and Polllution can all be detected, measured and reported on using WSNs and Vertoda.

As well as measurement/detection, WSNs also play a major role in controlling and managing scenarios where the efficient management of energy is critical. Lighting Systems, Water Management Systems and Filtration technologies require smart sensors for their successful operation. Vertoda will enable IT departments and users to achieve this management through its Sensor Organisation, Alert Configuration and Business Intelligence functions. Its open Web Services API will make this information available to any other software or system that the organisation may use.

The Honeywell TM005X Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer is an easy-to-read and economical way to track temperature and humidity in your home or office. Featuring a jumbo display unit with one-inch tall digital numbers, this sleek silver and black unit can monitor up to three remote locations. The TM005X comes with one remote sensor, but two additional sensors can be purchased separately and added. With the main display unit measuring 4.33 x 4.86 x 1.08 inches (WxHxD), and a display that includes comfort and trend indicators, you can place the TM005X on your desktop or hang it from a wall. With the remote sensor, you can track the temperatures of pools, hot tubs, spas, ponds, soil, and much more. The remote sensor has a transmission range of up to 100 feet. With the sensor powered by two AA lithium batteries, the unit has an outdoor temperature range of minus 38 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit, and when the sensor is powered by two AA alkaline batteries, the range is minus 4 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit. (The two AA batteries required for the sensor, and the two AA batteries required for the main unit, are not included.)
