TED 5000 is installed! Its alive!
@Paul Sandler,
Paul, I have been considering getting a 5000-SG because i too have a solar PV system, and as such NYSEG (i'm in NY) has installed a net meter at my house. That said, just to address your comments, i was specifically told by NYSEG that they track two separate items, my NET usage and my NET production. Now, i think i like you found this a bit odd. NET usage is defined as whatever electricity I pull minus electricity i produce so long as I am producing less than i am pulling. Net production is the opposite, the accumulation of whatever i am producing minus what i am using whenever i am producing more than i am using. Now i also have a PV monitoring system installed which shows me the gross amount of PV i've produced.
Bottom line is that its not straight forward to see how those three numbers 'add up', so I am thinking the TED people simply used the same logic for their system as the utilities used for their net metering hardware. When I called NYSEG to ask about it they specifically said they 'wanted to avoid negative numbers'. Not saying its logical, but just saying.
